Beautiful People On Stage
『The grace that all of them have』

ST. LOUIS—”The beauty of it,” spoke to former dancer Joyce Lodato when she saw Shen Yun at Lindenwood』s J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts on Feb 12.

She said the performance was “beautifully done"

"Beautifully done. Beautifully staged. The backdrops, the costumes, the music. And since I was a dancer, I appreciate the dancing.”

Many years ago, she danced professionally. Ms. Lodato still works in a related field teaching yoga. And because of her background, she knew the effort underlying the performance. She said; “I know what goes into making the effort. Many years of work and study so, I appreciate that very much.”

She recognized the kind of rehearsal time and discipline required of the artists. "How hard it is and how hard you have to work to keep it up. You can't just, you know, go out and do a show. You must keep working. So that's very nice,” she said.

As a dancer, she noticed the aesthetic choice the company made, to create an experience of pure beauty.

“I particularly, naturally enjoy the dancing. To me the dancing and the music's been lovely. Having music that you can dance to instead of some discordant thing. You know, the lovely music, the softness of it. The beauty of it. And all the effects that they produce by—with their sleeves and their fans and their blossoms.”

The physical appearance of the artists as well as their skill pleased Ms. Lodato. She said it was “just beautiful, all the turns and the jumps and everything. And the ladies' movements, and the beauty of their movements. The grace that all of them have. They're so slim and beautiful.”

Her escort, stylist Jim Donovan, echoed her opinion. He said, "The people are beautiful, [the] costumes. It's really a nice experience.”

Mr. Donovan also noted the “precision” of the performers.

“Oh, we're enjoying it so much. It's absolutely wonderful!”

He graciously said that they were pleased they had come, and pleased to have given an interview. "Absolutely. We've certainly enjoyed it.”
